Benefits of Turmeric (aka “Golden”) Milk

Turmeric powder is often considered the king of spices, and has been frequently used in curries and in Ayurvedic practices. It is extracted from Curcuma longa, which is a tropical herb. Extensive research on the properties of turmeric powder shows that it may provide antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, turmeric has anti-anxiety and depression fighting effects which make it a great addition to your daily routine. You can add turmeric powder in your cooking, or whip up a quick cup of turmeric milk for a quick, easy health boost.

Strengthens your immune system

Turmeric milk can help enhance your general immunity to protect yourself against a large number of diseases. It is enriched with anti-viral properties, which is why it is often recommended to help fight influenza. Turmeric can be especially beneficial for children who are susceptible to influenza or other viral diseases like chickenpox and measles. It can help reduce the development or severity of side effects associated with viral illnesses.

Remedy for treating digestive problems

Digestive problems are a challenge, and it often becomes too easy to turn to medication to manage the symptoms. However, turmeric milk may provide a more natural and effective solution to soothing problems in the digestive tract. Drinking turmeric milk can help improve digestion by relieving gas and bloating, while also helping to reduce heartburn resulting from gastric reflux. How to make turmeric milk

There are dozens of way to make turmeric milk, but my all-time favorite recipe uses coconut milk and some additional spices which make it a relaxing, evening beverage.

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 TBS raw, local honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • pinch of black pepper (which helps enhance absorption of curcumin)

Add all ingredients to a saucepan and heat until warm. Enjoy!
