3 Beliefs that Sabotage Weight Loss

While I’m not a weight loss coach, weight loss is something my clients are often after. Of course we all want to feel good about ourselves, and weight is one of those things that either increases or decreases our self confidence. I’ve spoken about reasons WHY people don’t lose weight (improper diet, toxicity, etc), but I’ve never gone much into limiting beliefs.

What are limiting beliefs? They are false beliefs that lead us to an incorrect conclusion. limiting beliefs are toxic. They make us feel like we cannot do things that we actually CAN. These are beliefs that hold you back from accomplishing things you are capable of, or keep you focusing on believing negative things. By blasting through limiting beliefs (alongside healthy eating of course!), you can absolutely achieve weight loss.

Here are 3 limiting beliefs that may be holding you back:

1. Genetics

Everyone’s families come in different shapes and sizes, and with different health concerns. This even includes our weight. If a lot of your family is overweight or curvy, you may believe that that’s why you are too. Same goes with thyroid issues, autoimmunity, etc. Sure, genetics DO play a part, but remember that something has to turn ON those genes.

So holding on to this concept that it is “genetic” can definitely make you hold on to that weight, because you may believe that no matter how hard you try, the weight just won’t come off. I guarantee that even if your entire family is overweight, you don’t have to be.

2. Lack of self-love

Let’s face it, we have all been there. Everyone has wanted to change the way their hair looks, or wished their teeth were straighter, or wished that they were two pant sizes smaller. When you lack self worth, you tell your subconscious mind that you cannot achieve those goals. So guess what? You don’t try, and you certainly don’t achieve them. So load up on the self love. Tell yourself 3 things that are amazing about you and start to believe them.

3. Unhappiness in general

Hello binge eating. If you are unhappy, this is where oftentimes people turn to food for comfort. Think about stress eating. Or eating after a breakup. Not usually a pretty sight, right? If you find yourself often turning to food for comfort, take a step back and evaluate why. Look at the pillars in your life (friendships, travel, finances, etc) and see where you’re lacking. Once you determine where your unhappiness and/or binge eating comes from, there is an enormous chance for success with losing weight.
